Pandas in Scotland, Iceland & Ireland

Day 1: Johannesburg South Africa to Edinburgh Scotland.

After a hectic couple of weeks, the long awaited G & T at the Slow Lounge at O R Tambo was most welcome, before boarding our overnight flight to London. My travelling companions, Gray and Robs, are not the best influence, so it turned out to be a couple of G&T’s, clearly setting the tone for the rest of our trip.

We arrived to a cold and rainy morning at Heathrow. We then caught the underground to King’s Cross Station. Arriving early, we tried to change our train tickets but it would have cost an extra £50 each, so we headed to the first class lounge and relaxed a bit.

The 5 hour train trip from London to Edinburgh was a very civilised way to travel with beautiful scenery. Despite the cold weather, the trees were full of blossoms, clearly spring is on the way. From Berwick-upon-Tweed we had great views of the chilly North Sea.

We arrived in Edinburgh 24 hours after leaving home. It was a long trip but a far nicer way to travel than our previous trip to Edinburgh, 3 years ago, when we flew Qatar Airways via Doha to Edinburgh.

After a much needed shower we went to the Scran & Scallie for dinner. I highly recommend this Restaurant, they have taken pub classics and given them a modern twist. Robs and I had haggis for starters, wow so delicious. After mains of Sunday roast and beef pie, the Morrison Clan finished off the evening with a whiskey tasting.
